Five Horror Movies That Made Me Laugh

I love horror movies, I really do. I could go on and on (and on) about how much I adore zombies, but we’re not here for that!

Instead, we’re here to reminisce about some of the funniest horror movies I’ve seen.

5. Zombieland

Zombies are my jam. Let’s get that out of the way right now. Zombieland? Excellent movie with action, zombies, terror, and Bill Murray. Who could go wrong with Bill Murray? My boys and I have watched this one several times and we’ve enjoyed it every time. I think it’s the mix of snark and absurdity juxtaposed with the horror of the dead things munching on guts.

4. Shaun of the Dead

Ah, zombies. They are so much fun to watch. Shaun of the Dead was a blast, the kind of apocalypse you’d want to have if your best friend was by your side. I think this is one of the reasons I liked it so much–Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are friends in real life and that bond made the movie shine. The funniest bit to me was the snap cuts (I don’t know the right terminology) of each step in their apocalypse plans. TO THE WINCHESTER!

3. Night of the Creeps

My teenage self loved this movie. I remember laughing hysterically (with my hand covering my mouth, because BRAIN SLUGS) with my best friends while we watched this during our sleepovers. There’s nothing like a show that brings friends together, huh? It was hokey and gross and so utterly delightful.

2. Big Ass Spider

Oh. My. Glob. This is a hilarious movie. If you haven’t seen it, get yourself to your nearest streaming station and watch it. The jokes are hokey, the situations ridiculous, and the spider? BIG ASS. It’s a delightful homage to the old monster movies, updated with enough cursing to make it relevant now. What’s not to love?

1. Tucker & Dale vs Evil

I laughed so hard I almost died. I swear. Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine were absolutely fabulous as Tucker and Dale and if you love horror movies, you’ll adore this well-made ‘crazy hick serial killer’ spoof. I’m not sure I could give you my favorite funniest moment because I laughed all the way through this movie. It’s a comedy of errors–with blood! And if you haven’t seen any of these and can only pick one (for some weird reason) then pick this one.

Honorable Mention

Why yes, it IS another zombie movie. Fido. It’s amazing. It’s lovable. It’s cute. Plus there are GUTS!
